Retatrutide (Reta): research reagent reference

Retatrutide, development code LY3437943 and often shortened to Reta, is a synthetic, fatty-acid-modified peptide: its chain includes non-coded amino acids and a fatty diacid attached through a linker to a lysine side chain.12 It was designed as a single molecule that binds the GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, and its receptor-bound structures have been published.2 It is an investigational compound from Eli Lilly and Company and is not approved anywhere.

This page is a reagent reference only: identity, structure, storage, laboratory reconstitution and certificate status. It makes no statement about any use or outcome of the compound.

Research use only. Not a drug, food or cosmetic. Retatrutide is supplied strictly for laboratory and in-vitro research and is not for human consumption. It is not an approved therapeutic good in Australia, has not been evaluated or approved by the FDA or the TGA, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Titan Peptides sells exclusively to qualified researchers and licensed laboratories.

Storage and handling

Store sealed vials dry, dark and frozen at −20 °C or colder, moving to −50 to −80 °C for long-term storage, and let each vial reach room temperature in a desiccator before opening.S1 Keep solutions short-lived: divide a reconstituted stock into single-use aliquots, freeze them and avoid freeze–thaw cycles. Container choice matters at low concentrations: lipidated and amphipathic peptides can adsorb to glass and some plastics, so check recovery rather than assume it.

Reconstitution: laboratory procedure

Retatrutide is a large, lipidated peptide. Handling guides note that peptides of this kind may need gentle, unhurried mixing and, if the protocol allows, a buffer slightly above neutral pH; check the supplier's documentation for the counter-ion before calculating molar quantities.

  1. Work in a clean laminar-flow or biosafety cabinet using aseptic technique, with gloves and eye protection.
  2. Let the sealed vial reach room temperature in a desiccator before opening, so moisture does not condense on the powder.
  3. Tap or briefly centrifuge the vial so all of the powder sits at the bottom.
  4. Use the solvent your assay protocol specifies. Sterile water or a suitable buffer suits most short, charged peptides; a sequence that resists dissolving may need the small amount of dilute acetic acid or organic co-solvent described in standard peptide handling guides.S1
  5. Add the solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial with a calibrated pipette, then swirl or roll gently until the solution is clear. Avoid vigorous shaking or vortexing, which can promote aggregation.
  6. If the assay needs a sterile solution, pass it through a 0.22 µm low-protein-binding filter.
  7. Label the stock with compound, solvent, date and batch number, split it into single-use aliquots, and freeze them at −20 °C or colder. Thaw one aliquot per experiment and discard what is left rather than refreezing it.

The concentration of a stock solution is set by the assay protocol, not by this page. Our guides to reconstituting peptides with bacteriostatic or sterile water and how to store peptides explain the reasoning behind each step.

Certificate of analysis

Purity: not published. Titan Peptides publishes a purity figure only once a certificate of analysis (COA) for the batch has been checked and its compound name, CAS number and sequence match the product. Until that check is complete, no purity figure is shown on this page or in the catalogue.

A COA is available to account holders on request. Our guide on how to read a peptide certificate of analysis explains what to check, and HPLC and mass spectrometry for peptide purity covers how the figures are measured.

Status in Australia

Retatrutide is not named in the Poisons Standard June 2026 (F2026L00633).3 The TGA's 13 April 2026 safety advisory nonetheless names retatrutide as an example of an unapproved peptide product, one that has not been evaluated by the TGA for safety, quality or effectiveness, and states that a "research use only" disclaimer does not make supply lawful.4 Retatrutide is not an approved therapeutic good in Australia or elsewhere. See research peptides and Australian law.

Retatrutide: quick answers

Is Reta the same as retatrutide?

Yes. Reta is a common short form of retatrutide, the investigational peptide with development code LY3437943, CAS number 2381089-83-2 and PubChem compound ID 171390338.

What is the molecular weight of retatrutide?

PubChem gives a computed molecular weight of 4731 g/mol for the molecular formula C221H342N46O68. A salt form has a different formula and mass, so a certificate of analysis may list a different figure for the supplied material.

Why can retatrutide not be written as a simple one-letter sequence?

It contains residues outside the 20 standard amino acids, including α-aminoisobutyric acid at position 2 and α-methyl-L-leucine at position 13, and a fatty diacid side chain attached to lysine 17. A full description needs a structure diagram or an extended notation.

How should lyophilised retatrutide be stored?

Sealed, dry and dark at −20 °C or colder, and at −50 to −80 °C for long-term storage. Warm the vial to room temperature in a desiccator before opening, keep solutions as frozen single-use aliquots, and check recovery from the chosen tubes because lipidated peptides can adsorb to surfaces.
